Some bio highlights: News gathering and Public affairs documentaries for CBC (Canadian Broadcaster), Canadian National Film Board, BBC and French television Channels.
A Film School gave me a diversified training oriented towards the different essential trades of cinema and television. Above all, it allowed me to integrate production quite quickly.
I was lucky enough to become the 1st assistant director of the great Manoel de Oliveira (“L’Amour de Perdition”) and Paulo Rocha (“L’Île des Amours”).
Later, in Paris, I was the executive producer of the first film co-produced by France and Portugal: “Oxalà”, directed by A. P. de Vasconcellos, with whom I had founded the production company V.O. (“Version Originale”). Integrating Antoine Bonfanti, Paulo Branco and Michel Tomasi, V.O. was a prolific company that, alone or in co-production, helped make films by Wim Wenders (“The State of Things”), Marguerite Duras (“Le Camion”), Alain Tanner (“Dans la Ville Blanche”), Raul Ruiz (“Les Trois Couronnes du Matelot”), etc.
The desire to return to the field led me to Africa where I stayed until 1982, at first in the Maghreb region for 3 years and afterwards in Southern Africa for two more years. During this period, I directed and shot documentaries in 16mm and worked as a correspondent based in Algiers at first, and then in Maputo.
Along with that I trained technicians for RTA (Algerian TV) and did production (V.O., creation of television in Mozambique, etc.).
The injuries sustained during an ambush near Maputo in December 1982 brought me back to Paris, where I settled again until 1989.
I continued my collaboration with V.O. until 85, sharing my production time with the Centre d’Études et de Recherches de l’Image et du Son, which I directed during the same period. From 85 to 89, I was able to return to the film sets, for fictions (“La Chaîne” by Claude Faraldo) and documentaries for “Résistences” (A2), advertising, etc.
Family reasons then led me back to Montreal, where I lived and worked as a director and director of photography for television channels and private producers, while producing documentaries and corporate films myself.
I kept working and living on both sides of the Atlantic, dividing my time between Canada, France and Portugal.
A documentary shooting for the series “The Greatest Journeys on Earth” brought me to Barcelona. I fell in love with Catalonia and have been living and working here since 2016.
